Cycle as avatar and metaphor.
Detail of Eric’s 1981 Yamaha XJ550 Maxim c. 2014

Welcome to Zensylpedia, the motorcycle zen encyclopedia that only Eric can edit (which kind of makes it an “Eric-ipedia”).

In theory, it will be possible to visit all Zensylvania information and articles (from Alpha to Motorcycle Zen) via inter-connecting hyperlinks. Admittedly, this is a work-in-progress.

Given that Eric does not claim to be an expert in anything at all, content on Zensylvania should be viewed as entertainment only…and any articles or information should therefore be considered valid exclusively within the speculative environment called Zensylvania. Some of the things we explore in Zensylvania include motorcycle zen, literature and philosophy.

To help you get started, choose one of the hyperlinks on this page.

Most Recent Work

The most recent Zensylvania essay/episode, titled Ghost, was released on January 1, 2023. It is an exploration of Robert Pirsig’s use of the idea of a ghost in Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance , as introduced in chapters three and five.

References & Notes

  1. Eric has been interested in designing and writing a subjective Wikipedia-styled information base for several years. This ambition was probably inspired jointly by Don Acheson’s “An Irish History of Civilization” and Will & Ariel Durant’s “The Story of Philosophy” and “The Story of Civilization”. Unlike formal academics, I am not constrained by academic standards and so I don’t mind celebrating “common knowledge” (a la Wikipedia) as well as my own human-all-too-human subjectivity. So we’ll see just how far I get with this aspect of the project.
